Description

A nice chrome postcard of “Yosemite Lodge” “located near the base of magnificent Yosemite Falls” and more description of the lodge which had just opened in 1956!!! Published by 5 Associates (#BSY-42). Mailed from “Yosemite Lodge” in 1958. There is a blurb on the back. (See scans of front and back.)
BACKGROUND: Daniel Joseph Desmond, head of the Desmond Park Service Company, leased the former Army camp from the National Park Service in 1915. He had the two large Army barracks moved end to end, and transformed them into a lounge and dining room. He also added a low porch on the front. Desmond left the company in 1917. The Desmond company morphed into the Yosemite National Park Company in 1918. It was first run by the Shaffer brothers (Richard and Harold) and then A. B. C. Dohrmann. The Yosemite National Park Company merged with the Curry Camping Company in 1925 and became the Yosemite Park and Curry Company. The current Yosemite Lodge buildings were dedicated in 1956.
