Original M1855M Springfield Pistol-Carbine Cartridge Box.  .58 Cal. Leather has some light crazing.  Belt loops only for waist belt.  Tin compartment has five sections, Implement pocket.  This box never had the U.S. plate affixed to flap.
See:  Edward Meadows Book U.S. MILITARY HOLSTERS & PISTOL BOXES - Page 387.  The box meets the measurements of the M1855 Pistol Carbine Box 6.2 X 3.5 etc. inches.  The Pistol Carbine was originally designed for Artillery & Mounted Troops.
