    you are bidding on 1
    rare Civil War Canister Shot (also known as a grape shot) from an exploded Canister.  These are the large size and have a diameter of about 1 1/4"- 1 1/2".  I have listed several photos of this next to a 1" Canister Ball (
    not included!!!
    ) for a size comparison.  Canister shot was placed in stacks and when fired, these would react much like a shotgun blast...  These are getting very tough to come by.  These were all dug in Antietam, Maryland.  I was fortunate enough to purchase a collection from the Antietam Area.  Please google canister shot to see the various uses as well as battles these were utilized in.  Please see my other auctions for more great authentic Civil War Relics.
