S61R, The elevation block, for the 4 truck wood naval carriage at broadside of warships, the 4 truck mar-silly carriage for guns about 6500 pounds, like the 8" DAHLGREN. Ripley's book on Artillery of the Civil War, both illustrates and describes the QUOIN in detail (pages 214-215), including the iron fixtures. This specimen is all original, however water damage and rot has eaten away some wood on its bottom, although the irons, all top and side wood, handle/grip piece and much original paint are intact. Perhaps the ONLY original such QUOIN to have survived, at least outside of a museum, ship weight is 55 pounds.
