HAMMER FORGED CIVIL WAR ARTILLERY DRAG OR TRACE CHAIN

Description

S184T, With offset hook for taking up the slack and adjustment from axle to the stock (2 were used, one on each side.) Identified in several artillery books. This specimen was discovered in the bore of a Revolutionary War British 12 pounder cannon, when it was cleaned out of rocks, dirt and junk by a collector, whom bought the barrel to restore it for a cemetery monument. He found other interesting things too and sold them as relics. With a nice smooth patina overall, the chain is in very good condition, measuring exactly 5 feet long. Each link is about 1.5" long. The large link at the hook is about 2.5" and the forged iron hook itself is about 5" long. All original and complete. Ship weight is 6 pounds.
